An open-plan family home was what greeted the Designer Kitchens and Project Stone Australia team, and its occupants were clear about their brief – they wanted a large kitchen to suit their needs, while complementing the home’s existing style. “They wanted a contemporary, country-style kitchen,” recalls Marc at Designer Kitchens. “It was also to act as almost a feature.”
On a budget of $35,000, the teams delivered exactly that. It wasn’t without its dilemmas – plenty of structural work was required thanks to a previous kitchen renovation. Restricted by the position of the stairs and the room’s size and shape (particularly, the bulkhead transition between two rooms), the teams were required to move windows and add doors to get some much-needed light into the space. “We filled in one window and incorporated two more – one in the servery, and one in the main kitchen,” says Marc. “And now, the kitchen boasts large, bi-fold doors to transition between the living and outdoor areas.”
Working in conjunction on successful projects is almost a trademark of the Designer Kitchens and Project Stone collaborations, with each team’s specialty complementing the other’s beautifully. Such is the case in what Marc terms as the defining elements of this particular kitchen – the profiled two pak cabinetry, which marries well with the River White granite benchtop and waterfall end. Incidentally, the benchtop is one of Marc’s favourite features. “It’s a rare diagonal cut across the run of the veins,” he explains. “It’s very dramatic and stands out beautifully on the waterfall end.”
Down-lights were incorporated into the cabinetry to add vibrancy to the kitchen, subtly imbuing the same love and passion of this family unit into the new hearth of the home. “They enhance the mood of the space, adding warmth into the palette of the colours,” says Marc. The team also created the wooden display cabinet which flanks the dining room wall, continuing this concept of warmth throughout the home.
When asked what tips he’d pass onto those who’d want to renovate their own kitchens, Marc is quick to answer. “Come see me and I’ll create your dream kitchen!” he laughs. “Alternatively, just be sure to make your kitchen the centrepiece of your home. Don’t be afraid to experiment with colours and textures.”
A central hub for the family, where good food, laughter and shared memories can be created – this kitchen is truly a success.
